Spinal decompression is a technique that uses straps and other highly specialized equipment to gently pull on the spine. This pulling makes a space between vertebrae that are compressed, and relieves pressure on herniated disks. In some patients, enough space between vertebrae can be created to allow a herniated disk to slip back into its correct position, allowing the patient to avoid physical therapy, spinal injections, and/or surgery.
Using traction tables, the spine is able to be stretched and pulled in a non-invasive procedure that allows the patient to experience healing without surgery. Most chiropractors today are trained in this technique, including your Wyoming chiropractor. By stretching the spine, disks are given the space they need to fall back into place, and healing nutrients are allowed free access to the injured area, allowing it to heal more quickly and with fewer or no drugs. It is an excellent "whole body" approach to healing spine pain and herniated disks, with well-studied scientific evidence to back up its effectiveness.
This technique allows you to avoid invasive procedures and drugs that may have undesirable side effects. It is not a painful procedure. In fact, it is very gentle, and even relaxing. It is one of the best ways of healing difficult and/or painful conditions of the spine. In the hands of an experienced chiropractor like the one at Chiropractic First, it is one of the most effective non-surgical, non-invasive, whole body healing procedures for your spine you can obtain. With spinal decompression, out-of-place vertebrae can fall easily back into place. At the same time, the muscles around them heal so they stay where they're supposed to be.
This technique is highly effective for treating a number of conditions and injuries, such as:
This technique is often used as a treatment for auto accident injury, sports injury, and work injury. It is also effective at treating diseases of the spine and connective tissues around it without the need for medication. The ability of spinal decompression to deliver healing nutrients to the injured or diseased area makes healing happen quicker and easier than by using traditional drug-based methods, because it uses the body's own healing abilities to do the job.
